DWI Courts Receive International Recognition
Posted in
The latest annual report from the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) acknowledges DWI courts as a key strategy in alcohol producers’ commitment to reduce drinking and driving. It notes:
“Approximately 2 million drivers in the USA have three or more convictions for driving while impaired (DWI). Beam Suntory supports the National Center for DWI Courts (NCDC), a training and advocacy organization for DWI courts which targets the most dangerous repeat offenders who are responsible for the majority of impaired-driving fatalities. DWI courts offer individualized, long-term treatment and intense supervision for repeat DWI offenders. Research shows DWI courts that follow evidence-based practices reduce reoffending rates by 60% with DWI court participants being 19 times less likely to reoffend.”
NCDC is proud to be a partner in Beam Suntory’s corporate responsibility program. Another key NCDC partner, Responsibility.org, is also included in the IARD report, honored for their innovative “Ask, Listen, Learn” campaign to provide resources for teachers, school counselors, nurses, other educators and parents to educate students on the dangers of underage drinking.
